Wireless Trigger Mod

This is a test post to try to get podcasting to work.

This is the link that will not work.

Here's the link that I think DOES work, but it opens the file in iTunes. (itpc://www.jesusali.com/alicast/AliCast/Podcast/rss.xml)

Punctuation Questions

Do any of you know the rules for when you should use – two em dashes – to separate a thought, vs. when you should use, two commas, to do the same thing?

I am not sure if they are interchangeable, or if they have special circumstances attached to them. Please advise.

General Questions

I have a box with 12 brand new frames in it. Should I windex all of those glasses without looking? Or only on a case by case basis? Should it be an all or nothing situation?

What is the best kind of glass cleaner you all recommend? Is there some sort of factory line workflow you can recommend from your own experiences?

If I glass clean is there a period of time I should leave the prints out of the frames? Can you recommend a guideline?

Do any of you ever spray the glass with any of that anti-static stuff?

Do they make tape measurer's longer than 25'? Does the department or one of you have one to help me measure subdivide the main wall most accurately?

Do any of you have a 50' chalk line? I have a chalk line, just not sure how long it is. Do you recommend a chalk line? (Oh shit, they got those laser levels now-a-days... Would any of you recommend one to me if you've worked with them? I've got a tripod I could mount one on. Shit yeah, that would beat the shit out of a chalk line... But I will still need a long tape measurer to find the dead center of that wall. Help is appreciated.

What is the proper height to hang art work at? The center of the frame should be how far from the ground?

Please share your wisdoms with me. I am going to Home Depot to price laser levels and get a hot dog.

Backdrop Hanging Apparatus

The last post covered the main wall, this post discusses the PERPENDICULAR WEST WALL (nearest to Jessica Poor's space).

On that wall I would like to mount a length of airline cable between two posts and hang all of the backdrops on that cable.

I have proof of concept built this system in my studio. Here are some pics:

With the backdrops bunched closer together.

With the backdrops spread further apart.

So here is what I would like from the Committee:

Does anyone have the SPECIAL airline cable crimping tool to make really cute and even crimps?
I've been hammering the loop holders down on the concrete floor. It works but looks like shit.

Please tell me your impressions of this:

Since I can go THROUGH the drywall in my studio here is what I did:

  • Drywall screwed the solid wood block into the drywall in two places.

  • Drilled a hole through the center of the block.

  • Used a 6.5" threaded screw to go through the wood block (loosely).

  • Used combination of spacers and washers to keep the screw as perpendicular to the wood block as possible.

  • Fastened the long screw on the back with more washers and a nut.

The problem in the gallery is that I cannot "get behind" the wall to insert washers and nuts. But it is plywood so it is stronger. I've been experimenting with this drill in lock nuts but I don't think they will be strong enough once I start tightening the turnbuckles.

The ultimate goal is have the airline cable be as straight and unsaggy as possible.

Please advise.

New Exhibition Layout Designs 5.01

Hey Committee,

All the previous designs were working with 10 GIRLS stories. Now it looks like I will have 14. [15 minus the one night stand that only Lisa gave her opinion on.]

So I sketched out some new possible ideas for the main wall they are presented here:

MA Show Update 4.30

Hello Graduate Committee,

In an attempt to streamline the feedback process in this final week before my MA Exhibition I have decided to turn to the easily commentable and feedbackable superstructure provided by the Blogger.com interface.

This will over come the problem of too many cross emailed messages with multiple CC's.

So let's let'er rip, please start by downloading this file an updated PDF as of April 30th.

My thoughts on this revision:

All new writing should be considered as version 1.0. It is coming very slowly and difficultly. I think the Jessica K (down in flames) is the most close to being finished. I'm not sure if I even want feedback on it yet, however.

Monday I will finish Joanna and Alisa's Version 1.0 writing. Perhaps 1 night stand as well, Mat and Lane please give me some feedback to help me decide. (Also on second thought, let me know about what you think about the second Jessica (flames) now. If the consensus is strong enough I could print her Tuesday.) At that point I will make B&W prints of the entire series. And this will help me think more clearly about version 2.0 texts for All of the pieces.

My aim is to be printing Tuesday and Wednesday night, taping into mat's and glass polishing on Thursday morning and chalkline snapping and dry wall screwing Thursday night.

Okay, please post your responses to this particular blog entry. To do so you may need a blogger account, but I am almost certain I set it to allow ANYONE to post comments. So please go to town. Word. Jesus.
